Mayor McCoy Urges Residents to Stay Indoors; Avoid Travel

Due to severe and hazardous weather conditions resulting from Hurricane Irene, Mayor Jason L. McCoy today is urging residents to stay indoors and to avoid unnecessary travel.

“As a result of the storm, safe travel is currently being hampered by fallen trees and downed power lines,” said Mayor McCoy. “Given these conditions, I am strongly urging residents to remain indoors and avoid any unnecessary travel until the end of the storm. Residents should also continue to follow both state and local warning messages as the day progresses.”

Residents should avoid downed power lines and report them to the police department. Residents experiencing power outages should immediately report them to: (800) 286-2000. Residents can visit http://www.vernon-ct.gov for more information. Additional details, reports and hazardous conditions can be obtained by calling the operations center at (860) 872-9126 ext. 5.
